Quite why you would want to buy every drape that is available in our store, around 173, is beyond me, although at one time in the dim and distant past, I must admit to having had around 180 myself! This was just a waste of money, and it made it virtually impossible to find the drape I wanted when I most needed it – a bit like having too many clothes stuffed into your wardrobe really!
In my experience, you will probably find yourself using around 35 to 45 of your favourite drapes over and over again. Certain drapes will ‘do it for you’, though it may take some time to work out which ones.
For instance, I automatically reach for the gold and silver from the Antique drape pack to help me confirm Warm vs. Cool; you might prefer to use cream and white, or pink and peach. It’s up to you.
I’ve also created a Cool & Warm drape pack to confirm Warm vs. Cool which contains 12 cool & warm drapes that I used at the Wella Master Colour Congress. The choice is yours.
With some clients, I like to try out the different nuances of red to help me with the 4 seasons, and with others, I can ‘see’ the difference between Bright and Muted with different shades of apricot, though sometimes a couple of my darkest greens seem to do the trick.
I think 60 drapes are more than enough for any seasonal or tonal system and when I finally realised that I only used the same 35 – 45 drapes with virtually every client, I put most of the rest away.
But that’s just me… What works for you?
If you are just starting out, you probably have no idea what’s going to work and what isn’t, so why not let our experts help you?
Over 45 years’ of experience have gone into our drape sets and draping kits which contain a carefully selected number of reds, yellows, blues, greens, purples, plus the lightest and darkest neutrals.
The drapes work and this allows you to start draping your clients with confidence, learning as you go. You can always add more drapes to your collection later because you can order them one at a time if you like.
If I was starting out right now, I’d go for the Seasonal Drape Set (60 drapes) or the Improvability Draping Kit (includes fans, cover-up cape etc.), and also get the Colour Fabric Catalogue which contains one swatch of each drape colour in our range.
Using the colour fabric catalogue, it’s much easier to quickly show your client a few more colour options. You might even discover colours that you want to add to your set. And the Catalogue is a much better investment than an ocean of drapes that you might never use.
Our drapes are designed to work with all the different seasonal and tonal systems out there and every drape carries a label with both seasonal and tonal notation.
So even though we have ‘seasonal’ and ‘tonal’ drape sets, all the drapes in all the sets (and kits) are label to work perfectly with all the 4/12/16 etc. systems out there.
